2/ CURRENCY :
The currency unit in Vietnam is “dong” which is in notes only, no coins. The banknotes come in denominations of 200dong, 500dong, 1000dong, 2000dong, 5000dong, 10000dong, 20000dong, 50000dong and 100000dong. However, US Dollars are widely accepted as payment for hotels, tours, transportation, etc. Foreign currencies should be converted at banks or at other authorized exchanged counters. Beside that, the credit cards (American, Visa, Master Card, JCB) are accepted more and more at hotels, restaurants, shops and travel agencies in big town.
Visitors should not deal with street traders because the banks give you a fair exchange rate & you can avoid having fake bills.
3/ LANGUAGES :
In Vietnam there are 54 ethnic groups, each group has its own language and cultural identity within a common culture. The unity of Vietnamese culture manifests in the sense of community, the deep attachment of all ethnic groups in the process of building and defending of their country. Vietnamese language is used as common language, a common means of communication, for all living on the land of Vietnam.
Together with the national development, many foreign languages such as English, French, Chinese, Japanese, Germany, etc. are used to day in Vietnam for international relations.
